The Relationship Between Men and Women
With the name of G-d most gracious most merciful
The relationship between men and women as exemplified in the Bible and in the Holy Quran.
Let us begin with our discussion of the relationship between men and women with the relevant verses from the Holy Quran
O MANKIND! Be conscious of your Sustainer, who has created you out of one living entity, and out of it created its mate, and out of the two spread abroad a multitude of men and women.1 And remain conscious of God, in whose name you demand [your rights] from one another, and of these ties of kinship. Verily, God is ever watchful over you!
As you can see, the Holy Quran refers to the woman and the man as being created from one living entity in Arabic the word is nafsin wahidatan or one soul. In the Bible, Adam is created first and then no one is created from a rib of Adam. Sounds like two totally different origins does it not? Yet, we are taught that they are related
The woman is really a pointer, a sign pointing to even a bigger relationship that G-d wants man to have and that's a relationship with the natural world, with the material environmnet. When G-d says the woman is your tilth meaning your ground that you're going to plant your harvest what you expect to harvest you're going to plant it in that ground and you expect to harvest it. Well also we put our vital life in our wife, in our woman and we expect a good harvest. We trust G-d that we'll have a good harvest of our life repeated or another generation through her. But also as I said she is a sign pointing us to another relationship that we need to establish if we're going to expect to have our community life repeated and survived. We have to form that relationship with the natural environment. The material world that G-d created. So G-d is really subtly quietly suggesting to man, very strongly, but subtly, that he engage not only a beautiful woman but that he engage the material environment.
G-d made the community from a rib. I didn't say woman. I didn't say female. I said community. G-d made the community from a rib of man, because a rib is an arch or part of circle. A curved line if you keep extending it, what did Einstein say would happen? It comes right back to itself. If you keep extending it, it will complete the circle. So the curved line will eventually give you the full circle. And what is the full circle? The universe, everything. So it is just a hint or a sign of universaility, universal knowledge, universal perception, where man makes connection by studying the whole system that G-d created, the whole system of matter. He makes connection by studying the whole system that G-d created, the whole system of matter. He makes connection and comes to a whole and he has a whole knowledge instead of part knowledge or piece of knowledge that eventually takes him to whole knowledge.
This woman that is being made from the rib of the man is a society, or a community, or a worldview for the whole world that is being made from an appetite in the consciousness or in the soul of this man to complete his knowledge.
